USD 286 CELEBRATES OUR SCHOOL BOARD LEADERS THIS JANUARY

“School Boards Lead so Students Achieve”

January 2015 is School Board Recognition Month, and Chautauqua Co, USD 286 joins school districts across Kansas to say thank you to these community leaders who volunteer countless hours in their roles as leaders in our community.

“We are very fortunate to have seven individuals on our board of education who are committed to an excellent education for every child in our community,” said Nathan Hinrichs, Superintendent of Schools. “They participate in training, read reports and research and attend specialized professional development to stay on top of education issues and trends to prepare for the many decisions they are called upon to make.  And they do this all on a volunteer basis!”

School board members in USD 286 develop policies and make tough decisions that help shape the future of our education system. They bear responsibility and oversight for an annual budget of $ 4 million, 389 students, 78 employees and 4 buildings.

“These advocates for our community and our children preserve the very core of our democracy – public education! We are grateful to have this opportunity to formally say ‘thank you’ for sharing their vision and leadership for student achievement, academic programs, district funding and school facilities,” said Hinrichs.

USD 286 encourages the entire community to thank a school board member, not only this month but throughout the entire year.
