March Notes from the Superintendent
Spring Break Reflections and State Basketball
Spring Break provides school students and staff with a much-needed break from the daily demands of school and allows the opportunity to rest, relax and spend quality time with friends and family. At the March BOE Meeting, the USD 286 BOE voted to call off school for both Thursday, March 10th and Friday, March 11th.; allowing students, staff and their families to attend the state basketball tournament in Manhattan, making this years Spring Break even longer than usual.
The decision to call off school is always difficult, as we sincerely believe education is the key to future success for our students. However, with the overwhelming request from both students and staff to support the Blue Devil Boys at the State Basketball Tournament, it became apparent that we would not have enough teachers, substitutes and bus drivers for school to be in session.
The state tournament provided the Blue Devil family an opportunity to show Manhattan and the state of Kansas our commitment to excellence. Not only did we get to watch boys compete on the hardwood one more time; we also witnessed our select choir perform a flawless national anthem, our band energize the crowd and our student section support our team. I couldn’t help but spend the rest of my Spring Break reflecting on the amazing turnout to support our team from our school and our community. Sedan has true school pride and a passion for excellence, in a world that is far too often too cool for school pride and unwilling to pay the price to be excellent.
