Board of Education Appreciation Month
School Board Recognition
Throughout the month of January 2017 we are taking time to say “thank you” to six extraordinary citizens in our community. Our local board of education members volunteer countless hours each year leading success in our schools! They study issues, participate in meetings, attend school activities and events and advocate on the local, state and national levels for our children.
Our school board members are: Jill Gray, Rodney Dickens, Heath Joslin, P.J. Buck, Kathy Chamberland and Jaime Morris.
Public education is a cornerstone of American society, and a highly-valued part of our state’s history. In 1966 the people of Kansas amended our state’s constitution to specifically call for local public schools that are ‘maintained, developed and operated by locally elected boards.’ Local school board members comprise the largest body of publicly elected officials in our nation.
In our community the board of education makes decisions that impact the future of all our children. Their job is to establish a vision for our schools, then provide guidance and direction in accomplishing that vision. They ensure that our schools are accountable to the community.
The month of January marks the annual observance of School Board Recognition Month and gives us the chance to say thank you! This is a time to shine a light on how our local board prepares today’s students for success. In January, join with others throughout our district and state to salute the men and women who provide leadership for our public schools.
