MTSS Implementation K-12
For the past few years we have worked to improve the support our students receive. We have found that doing the same thing and expecting different results often prevents us from reaching our overall goals. Many times some students need an explanation or individual instruction, others need to finish assignments, and yet others need enrichment in areas they are passionate about or have interest in.
For the 2017-2018 school year we will be implementing MTSS (Multi-Tier System of Supports) for our students in K-12. While our elementary has had an MTSS program for several years, we will be extending supports for reading and math in the middle and high school. Thirty minutes per day will be used to help students who need supports in those content areas. The MTSS framework will help our school identify each child’s needs and provide supports as early as possible. We will develop those supports to meet each student’s needs either for enrichment or for remediation of skills. We will regularly check progress and change instruction as need to match each child’s learning.
For MTSS implementation to be successful and sustained across time, it must be a high priority within our school. All students and staff will be involved in the MTSS process. We are committed as a district, to provide the most appropriate supports for the needs of all our students. Look for more information throughout the year on this initiative at USD 286.
