USD 286 Host Career Day
At USD 286, we strive to help all students find their passion and become successful members of society. In order to prepare our future leaders for the global market, we have placed a stronger emphasis on aligning curriculum with career-readiness standards. On Friday November 17, 2017 Sedan High School hosted a Career Day. This was a unique experience for our students, as twenty of the twenty-four presenters, were Sedan High School graduates. Students from grades 6-12 spent the day attending sessions and learning about various careers. Careers represented included: medical, Art/pinstriping, law enforcement, education, paramedics, banking, welding/lineman, agriculture, social work, information technology, career/workforce, business management, and dental hygienist. All of our presenters took time from their busy schedules to come back and share their knowledge with our students. Our students were able to interact with actual professionals (many of which had walked the SHS hallways), to hear their experiences from High School and learn how they reached their career goals. Many of the presenters also shared their personal struggles and accomplishments on their unique paths’ to success.
The presenters were provided lunch from Mrs. Pinard and her FACS class, Mr. Farrice’s productions classes made schedules and packets for all the students and Mrs. Carolyn Williams planned and organized the event. Sedan High School is proud to partner with our alumni to help our students become college and career ready and to find success in all their endeavors. We would like to make Career Day even bigger and better next year, so please do not hesitate to share suggestions or volunteer to present. Thank you to all the SHS alumni and friends who made this day a success.
